Amy is a registered social worker who brings both professional expertise and lived experience to her work with neurodivergent clients. As a mother of a child on the Autism spectrum and someone diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood, Amy has learned to embrace and celebrate the positive aspects of her and her son’s neurodivergence. Through her own experiences, and those of her family, she’s become deeply aware of the ableism that often makes life more challenging for ADHDers, Autistic individuals, and their loved ones. Over the years, she has developed a wide range of personal strategies that help her thrive, and she loves supporting others as they discover their own.

With additional training and lived experience supporting LGBTQ+ and minority communities, especially trans, non-binary, and BIPOC individuals; Amy is uniquely equipped to work with clients who are often misunderstood or mistreated in traditional therapeutic settings.

Amy earned her Social Work degree from Carleton University with a minor in Psychology, and later completed a Master’s degree specializing in Gender Studies at the University of Ottawa. Her professional experience includes running workshops for youth struggling with addiction, counselling adults with addiction-related challenges, and providing three years of support to individuals with developmental delays. Alongside her neurodivergent-focused work, her areas of experience and interest include (but are not limited to):

  • Adults with ADHD or Autism

  • People who have experienced gender-based violence

  • Individuals struggling with addiction

  • Parents with neurodivergent children

  • Parents navigating challenges with “difficult” behaviours

  • People facing racism or discrimination

  • Non-binary and trans individuals

  • LGBTQ+ clients coping with stress in a heteronormative society

Amy is committed to personal growth, lifelong learning, and keeping her work joyful and meaningful. She brings a warm, accepting, and client-centred approach to therapy, and is dedicated to offering the best support possible, even when it means challenging her own assumptions. She also sees her own therapist regularly to stay grounded, sharp, and aligned with her values. Amy deeply understands what it’s like to be in the client’s seat and respects the courage it takes to begin therapy.
